Tied up trends: ribbons and shirts.

Using a ribbon to tie under the collar of your shirt is a look that's been around for years, with Chanel showing beautiful how to make the best of the trend. But recently it seems to be making a reappearance with anyone who's anyone rocking the look.

Of course, you don't just have to stick to ribbon - you could try using different materials or even creating a bow look with a small scarf. Or why not use the ribbon as a headband instead? It's such a simple look but is so effective!

We've created a couple of looks below to give you some inspiration - all of the clothing featured is vintage and from Emma's shop.

This boyfriend shirt looks even better with a tartan ribbon.

This gold ribbon really brings out the gold detail on this shirt!

This cute pink ribbon with white lace trim would really brighten up any outfit.

You don't just have to stick to shirts, why not try adding a ribbon to your favourite jacket?

Take a peek Thursday: Sian's suitcase

This week Emma's daughter Sian is home from uni for a break - she always looks amazing and has a completely different style from either of us so we thought we'd let you take a peek inside her suitcase and see what she's brought back with her to wear while she's in the Midlands!

Is this not one of the coolest looking suitcases you've seen? The S t-shirt was made by Emma and they're on sale in the shop, if you want one you just need to let Emma know what size you want and of course which letter too.

Nike trainers - Liberty / leggings - H&M / jumper - vintage / Sleek blusher - Superdrug / Diana F camera

Shoes - Office / leopard print top - Office / jacket - Topshop / jeans - Topshop / bag - Topshop

Bag - vintage / top - vintage / jeans - Topshop / leather coat - Primark / shoes - Office / scarf - H&M
How cool is the travel cup from Clintons? It's brilliant for students as she can take it with her for busy days at uni!

We hope you've enjoyed taking a little look inside Sian's suitcase! We'll be back tomorrow for another Fashion Friday post!

We'd love to hear your comments on this or any of our other posts! The settings have now changed so anyone can comment! You can also join us on Twitter or follow us on the right hand side of this page to ensure you don't miss a post!

Step up your Style Sunday: coats, hats and scarves

With winter refusing to leave us both of us are still firmly wrapped up in our warm vintage coats! If you've got to layer up because it's so cold outside, you might as well do it in style right?  If you're going to invest in a coat, vintage is a much better choice than designer! You can guarantee the piece will be made really well plus it'll probably cost you a fraction of the price of a new one!
So here's a selection of coats, scarves and hats from the shop and our suggestions about how to style them!

We're very excited to be showing you some Marshall and Snelgrove coats and hats today - the company was founded in the 19th century and had a shop on Oxford Street, merging with Debenhams just after the First World War. The brand is still much sought-after and respected so these pieces probably won't be in the shop for too long! They're so beautiful someone is bound to snap them up very soon.

This Astra Furs coat is an absolute beaut, it was made in Paris from the 'famous French fabric' and looks amazing even today. It will go with almost anything - in the daytime with jeans, out on a night out, even with your Converse!

How amazing is this Marshall and Snelgrove coat? It just looks beautiful on and no words can describe how amazing it feels to wear! Again this would look lovely teamed with some skinny jeans and casual shoes in the daytime or equally it could finish off your night-time amazingly! Whatever you team with it it's bound to turn heads!

This is another Marshall and Snelgrove coat which is really ideal for a daytime look - it's so comfy and will be guaranteed to keep you warm whatever you're doing! Again jeans would look brilliant with it but why not try a dress or a shirt for a smarter look?

This is a 50s vintage rabbit fur coat which is so versatile and would work with anything!

How lovely is this 50s tweed coat with fur collar? The colour and fit is amazing!

Both the top and the middle hats are also Marshall and Snelgrove and the bottom one is a lovely 70s one. A hat can really finish off your outfit and any of these would look amazing with any of the coats above! Why not add a brooch or decoration on to your hat to make it even more individual!

How amazing are these scarves! You can either style any of these around your neck, as a bowtie under a shirt, as a headscarf or why not tie it around the bottom of your plait if you've got long hair?

Treat yourself Tuesday: our new purchases

We've both been indulging in a little retail therapy lately so we thought we'd show your some of our purchases and give you our ideas about how we'd wear what's in the shops right now! We've picked five items each so hold on tight and here we go!

Also - an announcement! You can now follow us on Twitter!

EMMA:

Skirt - H&M - £19.99
I love this skirt especially the length and the gorgeous green with the gold stud detailing! These types of skirt are so versatile as they can be worn for work, shopping, a dinner date, even partying - the list is endless! For a day look I would add black tights with a funky t-shirt, leather jacket, some ankle boots and plenty of jewellery.

Leopard print jumper - H&M - £12.99
I absolutely love this jumper! Again there are so many ways you could wear it - to work, shopping or for a comfy day. I would definitely choose to wear it on a comfy day but teaming it with jogging bottoms or a t-shirt dress, I guarantee you'll never want to take it off!

T-shirt - Topshop - £20
I am just totally in love with this new t-shirt! This comes up quite baggy and long so you could get away with wearing it as a dress with black tights and your favourite trainers. I can't wait to wear mine and will add my leather jacket over the top!

Skirt - H&M - £14.99
This delicate lace skirt is from H&M and I'm immensely in love with it! I wore this out on Saturday night and teamed it with a cami top, leopard print belt, cropped leather jacket and ankle boots. It looked totally amazing! This skirt is a must this season!

T-shirt dress - H&M - £7.99
Everyone should invest in a t-shirt dress, they are so simple to wear and go with absolutely everything! You can wear them under your shirts, baggy t-shirts, jumpers, dress it up with a blazer, a leather jacket and your favourite high shoes. And of course a must is to overload it with jewellery!

HARRIET:

Dress - Primark - £10
This dress sits at a beautiful midi length and is ideal for the taller girl such as myself if you don't want to show off too much leg! It's tight fitting but not too clingy which again is ideal. I'll be wearing this to work today with a tasselled sleeveless cardi, black tights, black Chelsea boots, a top knot and plenty of jewellery. Alternatively I'd pair it with these cross earrings (also Primark) and some mega heels for a classy evening look.

Shirt - vintage - Emma's shop
I've got a real thing about vintage shirts but most of the ones I own are denim so not ideal for work. As soon as I saw this in Emma's shop I knew I wanted it to be mine! It's long enough to wear with leggings so for a casual look I'd go for leggings, flat boots, a patterned headscarf and probably a big chunky jumper over the top. For a work look I'd tuck it in to some trousers or a skirt and wear a scarf tied in a bow under the collar.

Vest top - Primark - £3
How can you argue with spending about the same as you would on a sandwich on a top with a wolf on it, a dipped hem at the back and studs on the shoulder?! In the summer I'd wear this with a pair of denim shorts, Converse and some flowers in my hair to girly it up a bit! Or for now it'll be paired with leggings, Converse and a big jumper with plenty of bracelets.

Shirt - vintage - Emma's shop
What was I saying about vintage shirts? I love the stud detail Emma's cleverly added to this shirt and the length of it. I'll be wearing it to work open over a bright dress or with jeans, ballet shoes, a leather jacket and these peace earrings (from Primark) for a weekend look.

Maxi skirt - Primark - £10
I literally ran to this skirt and grabbed it as soon as I lay eyes on it! It's the ultimate comfy skirt. For a casual look I'll be wearing it with an oversized men's vest tucked in to it with a patterned headscarf and Converse/sandals in the summer. I think it would also look amazing with a white shirt and a big fur coat!

Those are just some of the looks we'll be rocking in the coming days and weeks! We hope you loved our new purchases as much as we do!

Fashion Friday: tailored jackets.

Fashion is all about taking a trend and making it your own so we thought we'd show you how you can pick a  piece and wear it day or night, no matter what you're doing! Following fashion is so easy these days when you can walk in to any high street shop and pick a beautiful piece off the rails but equally we firmly believe you can find a look which screams trendy by wearing vintage - they say fashion goes round in circles so why not pick a piece made last time today's trends were hot, that way you can guarantee you'll be the only one rocking it wherever you go!

This week we've picked tailored jackets - EVERYONE is wearing them right now and here's how we'd wear ours:

This cheeky checked little number is so on trend and has found its new owner who snapped it up as soon as they saw it in Emma's shop.

Emma's styled a beautiful night-time look for it: dress - Topshop/ shoes - vintage / bag - vintage / cross - Forever 21 / ball necklace - vintage.

And Harriet's paired it with some comfy casuals for a daytime look: oversized men's vest - Primark / jeans - New Look / headscarf - vintage / rings - H&M.

You can find this amazing striped blazer on sale at Primark!

This is Emma's daytime look for the stripy blazer: cami top - vintage / leather mini skirt - H&M / necklace - vintage / shoes - Converse (you can always add tights to this look while it's still a little chilly to go bare legged).

And for a night-time look this is how Harriet would style it: dress - H&M / glittery shoes - New Look / owl earrings - gift / glitter (for eyes) - Barry M / nail varnish - Missguided.

This super cool vintage jacket is on sale at the shop.

This outfit styled by Emma would be perfect for a dinner date: dress - Topshop / boots - Kurt Geiger / nail varnish - OPI / belt - Primark.

Finally this is a work look from Harriet: dress - Topshop / watch - New Look / belt - Primark / boots - Primark / headscarf - H&M / nail varnish - Barry M.

Hopefully that's given you some inspiration - maybe there's a jacket you've had hanging in your wardrobe waiting for them to fill the pages of fashion magazines again or if not why not get out there and pick up a high street or a vintage jacket to complement any look!
